TUPPS Brewery - A Visit

Updated: Nov 21, 2021

Blending Art & Science

At First Glance

After a tasty dinner at Local Yocal, we decided to hit up TUPPS Brewery which was just a short drive away in downtown McKinney, Texas.

TUPPS Brewery is located at the end of a dark cul-de-sac and tucked away on the back side of an industrial building. Cars lined the street and we parked at the one open spot. As we walked down Anderson Street, a flashing arrow appeared, beckoning beer lovers towards its soft glow.

Upon entering, we were greeted with an open air patio holding plenty of benches and tables taking up half the warehouse building. A duo of a guitarist and vocalist was playing cover songs on the stage and a food truck was serving bites on the opposite side out back. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on if you're a half glass full individual) we were all stuffed from dinner so we did not partake in the culinary delights but they smelled delicious.

The Libations

The tap wall was located in the center of the building with the brewery making up the other side. As we approached, you could tell from the eclectic ambience that there was going to an eclectic selection of beers to match. With a selection of 16 beers on tap ranging from your standard Ales and IPAs to both Coffee and Imperial Stouts, 6 beers in can, and another 4 hard seltzers, we were sure to find something for everyone.

In addition to beer and hard seltzers, TUPPS Brewery also offers water, canned tea, lemonade, sodas, and Topo Chico.

After reviewing all the options, we ordered a glass of Neon Shades, a couple of glasses of Full Grown Man Child, and their version of a shandy.

The Neon Shades is a sour beer with a focus on tropical fruits. Not nearly as mouth-puckering as some sours I've had, this one was more subtle, letting you ease into it's sourness. The Full Grown Man Child (not me, the beer) was a breakfast stout with plenty of chocolate and coffee flavors that you would expect.

For the second round, I enjoyed a glass of the aptly named Juice Pack, a New England styled Pale Ale. I wasn't as big a fan of the Juice Pack as I was the Neon Shades, it's self described fruit flavors seemed to be muted and flat. Although to be fair, it could have more to do with the fact that it was following up the Neon Shades and perhaps the sour beer was still dominating my palate.

Take Away

Overall, we had a great time. The beer was great, the music was on point, and the conversation couldn't have been better. If you ever find yourself in McKinney, give TUPPS a visit, it'll be worth the effort.
