Pontotoc Vineyards Enchanted Rock Albariño - An Assay

A Crisp White With A Surprise Food Pairing

Where It’s From

The Pontotoc Vineyards Enchanted Rock Albariño comes from Gillespie County in the heart of Texas Hill Country. While Gillespie County is not a recognized AVA of Texas, it is a county of Texas and as such, can be named as a place of origin on a wine label so long as at least 75 percent of the wine is derived from grapes grown in the named county AND the wine is fully finished in the state in which the county is located.

Varietal Composition

The Pontotoc Vineyard Enchanted Rock is 100% Albariño grown in Gillespie County in the heart of Texas wine country. Albariño is a variety more commonly found growing in the Iberian Peninsula. It enjoys warm weather and produces wines with great acidity.

In The Glass

This wine is subtle and doesn't scream for attention. It's content with being itself. Aromas of melon, peach, and hints of green apple are complemented by a firm backbone of acidity. The palate lingers momentarily before finishing with a crisp bite.

Traditionally, one would pair this wine with a fish base dish such as ceviche or grilled fish tacos, but I'm going to through you a curve ball here and suggest a pairing of pepperoni pizza; the combination of melted cheese with the subtle spiciness from the pepperoni will make this wine sing!
