The Secret Decoder Ring For My Ramblings

An Analysis

/əˈnaləsəs/

detailed examination of the elements or structure of something.

This will be a more in depth look at a topic. How it pertains to us on a local level.

An Assay

/ˈaˌsā,aˈsā/

examine (something) in order to assess its nature

This is my feeble attempt to describe a wine; the way it looks, any aromas, acidity levels, tannins, alcohol, finish. A lot of these are subjective, and depend on where the wine is in its lifecycle, a wine recently bottled will taste vastly different than a wine that has been aged for several years, however, I'll do my best to describe the wine as I experience it.

A Declaration

/ˌdekləˈrāSH(ə)n/

a formal or explicit statement or announcement.

These are collections of my ramblings or soap boxes that I feel strongly about and that need to be addressed.

A Guide

/ɡīd/

a person who advises or shows the way to others.

I have a lot of very useless talents. Some of them you may find helpful, others you may not. The guides are tips on how I do things, nothing more. Often times, they're probably wrong...

An Overview

/ˈōvərˌvyo͞o/

a general review or summary of a subject.

These posts will contain information in broad strokes and generalities about different topics such as wine or grapes. Viewing those topics on a global scale rather than a regional or local point of view.

In Review

/rəˈvyo͞o/

a formal assessment or examination of something with the possibility or intention of instituting change if necessary.

I hate the word review when it pertains to subjective topics but I don't have a better word to describe what I'm doing. If you can think of one, I'm all ears. Reviews will only pertain to books and for that matter, only books dealing with fermented beverages. I'm not necessarily reviewing the information they contain but more so how they convey that information to the reader.

A Visit

/ˈvizit/

an act of going or coming to see a person or place socially, as a tourist, or for some other purpose.

Let's be honest, I'm not a fan of critics, and that's not what I'm trying to accomplish when I write a post about a winery or brewery that I visit. All I'm trying to do is give my impression as some middle aged generic guy going out for a drink. So factor that into your thought process when (if) you are reading an assessment.
